Misconceptions of marriage

waiting for the drycleaners to deliver my clothes.. they are late . hate to wait, seriously regretted rejecting BH’s offer of us picking the jackets up from the shop. Let me blog an entry while waiting. Boo.. they are not coming today, coz they realise tt my white down jacket is still dirty 🙁

I have always wanted to put this into words .. so here goes –

If you are like me, u will have many of your own ideals of a ‘perfect’ marriage.. i entered into this marriage with many many expectations.. to only realise that the ideals I have are pure misconceptions. Does it sound weird? but it’s true!

Myth 1: Once you get married, you can have lots of sex

YOU WISH!! Geez.. believe it or nt but BH and I rarely get intimate – ok.. not tt you are interested but the frequency is TWICE in a mth! pathetic? haha.. we had been married for a yr + and we haven’t done it for 100 times!!

eh.. I am not complaining. Being a guy, he’s a very willing party BUT I feel so insecure each time even when we use protection. So, I’m not enjoying.. just obliging.. In anyway, I wld rather not live in fear and anxiety before my period comes! I have so many plans for us and myself… 1 mistake will kill us!!! Hence, I resulted to “NO SEX! Can we just cuddle?” haha.. we don’t need sex to feel connected – now i wish i was in Avatar

“why don’t use birth control?” > I am afraid of weight gain 🙁

Myth 2: Going to bed together

This is sooooooo not true can.. BH had been really bz at work… so we sleep at different times. I will sleep early and he’ll crawl into bed ( and wake me up) in the wee hours in the morning… bad… disrupting my sleep and sometimes, I’ll wake up with a bad headache 🙁

Myth 3: Wear sexy lingerie

nah.. i hardly don’t wear sexy lingerie.. I mean.. y do I wanna put myself in danger man

Myth 4: Easier to create romantic surprises

Rubbish! I will kinda know if BH gets me something.. he will be sooooo sneaky abt it… and the worst is.. he hides the gift and I will accidentally ‘discover’ so… it’s not very fun.. In fact, you will get complacent and nt get any gifts for each other anymore… kinda sad.. but true

Myth 5: He throws the trash

I do this sh*t job too… coz after cooking, I will clean up the kitchen and the bin will stink  ( and he’s not home).. so I got to do this disgusting job .. ( actually, not v gross la.. the building is new.. the trash room here is clean for now)

Myth 6: He/She will change after marriage

BH still works late and put works first. Don’t expect your partner to change. Accept whatever flaws/ bad habits BUT you can train him to do things your way 🙂 haha.. BH is well-trained like.. he knows how I wld put things ( after all the scoldings ) and does the ‘correct’ way. heh…

So far, we like married life.. that’s because we are both here in Seattle and we don’t have to care abt a thing in SG ( eg: whose relatives’ bday, which family dinner.. blah blah…  you get the idea) -tt’s also one of the MAIN reason y we don’t wanna go home…

Second try: Pineapple Tarts

This time I had BH to help me with the baking 🙂 It’s the 1st time BH and I baked together! oh well, it wld be nice if we had the stand mixer. Still waiting for a good deal to make the purchase.

The pictures below are numbered. heh.. do read the descriptions after the pic if u are keen to know how we baked these tarts.

Pineapple tarts seattle

1) I prepared the pineapple jam before hand. I used 2 cans of crushed pineapple. Why didn’t I use fresh ones? Well, it’s not cheap here and I do not know how to prepare a fresh pineapple! Preparing pineapple jam takes a while coz you need to ensure that the water from the pineapple had evaporated –  you need to be patient

2) I prepared the dough. We did not managed to take pics of how I made the dough but I knead it by hand – which is so much easier than using my lousy hand mixer. This time I placed the dough in the fridge for abt 1hr before rolling out and shaping the tarts. As you can see, we do not have the pineapple tart mould so we used a bottle cap – which works fine too!

3) BH turned out to be a better tart moulder than me. So he took over the task! You got to dust the work area and rolling pin with flour

4) I was rolling the pineapple jam into small balls, painting dough with egg wash

5) In the oven! looks so good already

6) Tadah!!! pretty??

7) we felt tt it’s a wash to throw the dough away ( kneading was hard work!) so we used the remaining dough and made them into choco chips cookies

8 ) we cooled the tarts, packed them into small boxes. This might sound crazy but we are gonna ship them to SG so that our family can have a taste of them 🙂

The 3rd party

*sob sob*

Maybe this is the result of  7 years inch?

Ever since BH and I started dating, I am against him buying any form of game consoles or handheld games.. I do not like guys who sits in front of the TV or computer playing games. I think it’s a complete waste of time and it mks one ‘lazy’, ‘violent’, or simply OBSESSED!! You wanna relax? Go out of the house! (ahem .. this is also the reason why students didn’t do their homework or forget their books!)

I was sooooo upset when BH went right into the game industry after graduation – and when he works late or forgets my birthday (for 1 yr, which I will rem for life), I blamed it on those idiotic inanimate machines/games.. geez… how childish right??? But I can’t help it!! hmph! Fortunately, he’s out of that industry now

Before we got married, I still reminded BH that ” no game consoles is gonna step foot into the house” and he was like ” ok………..” I bet he murmured something else under his breath!!

I guess… BH just had his wildest dreams fulfilled when he finally got hold of his 1st REAL game console for the 1st time. He was truly happy and excited BUT he acted like he’s not..I think the feeling is even better than his wedding day.. grrrr

As for me, I felt as though BH brought his mistress home 🙁 and I gave him HELL for the weekend.

Oh well, at least we have a DVD player for now and I gt to watch youtube on TV and BH is more motivated to come home early after work. The reason is not me, it’s PS3.. it’s sad but true . I feel lousy.

Snowboarding Day 1

We have been planning a skiing/snowboarding trip for some time .. last yr, the snow was really bad, so we didn’t even think of trying these sports out. Although, the weather is cold and wet this year, it’s still isn’t tt bad 🙂 SO Julius kindly volunteered to bring us to The Summit at Snoqualmie This is the nearest ski/snowboard place to Seattle, abt 45mins away from us

we had a late night the night before, due to Avatar BUT we still got up bright and early, had a super heavy breakfast and head to Snoqualmie. I was wrapped in layers coz I thought it wld be cold, since it’s outdoor and there’s snow… BUT i was sooooooooo wrong!!! geeez… I was perspiring like crazy after the snowboarding session.

heh.. ok.. so BH and I bought a 3 day lessons pass ( + gears rental) for US$119, which was quite reasonable! I was expecting the gears to be old and dirty but i’m wrong! The gears are relatively new and well-maintained. Actually, I wanted to try skiing coz it looks easier.. heh.. BUT Julius was ard and he’s able to teach us snowboard, so we went for snowboard instead!

The 1st time was hard – the shoes make walking difficult and the snowboard was super heavy!! I took the kids size one and it’s still heavy!! really struggled the 1st few times to put on the gears and to balance on the board( ya.. i am real bad at balancing tt I don’t know how to cycle)

Julius was really nice – he was like “it’s ok to fall and embarass yourself.. don’t worry!” haha..so looking at the many newbies ard us and having a mindset tt “snow does not hurt as bad as hard cement floor” , I pluck up my courage and I managed to balance and even snowboard for a distance!! wow!! I’m impressed by myself 🙂 I realised tt I had been belittling myself all the while ! I can do it!! Why do I always think I can’t?? In the end, I even managed to do better than BH ( so i thought.. haha.. talking abt being humble) :X

The pass we bought enables us to take 3 beginner lessons – so we went for our 1st lesson. Seriously, got 2 thank Julius for teaching us the basics 1st – he gave us the headstart so we weren’t the worst in the class! (Class consist of adults!)

So now I know how to control the snowboard with the heels and toes, I can make a small J turn too – how cool is that!!

haha.. of course, in the process of learning, I tried and fell many times in order to get the techniques right. anyway, I bought kids’ size pants and they have extra ‘padding’ at the bum and knees, so it didn’t hurt that bad 🙂

Above all, it was fun and something new.. I love how free I feel when I snowboard – awww.. the cool air .. and I’m not gonna wear too much next time!! coz snowboard is kinda like an exercise? you will perspire, even when it’s cold!!

Looking forward for our next lesson – where we will take our snowboard to a ‘higher’ level!!

It’s the little things

*random post – coz I just felt like blogging!*

So the long weekend came and went very quickly… we went to Serious Pie for lunch with Julius (pics on Julius’ iphone as we forgt our cam… wonder when can we get it) . Serious Pie deserves a review post!!! 🙂

I think BH had Monday/work blues… seriously…he was acting like a sick puppy…  anyhow, he still went to work today… heng ah! it’s weird but i don’t really like him to be home as I really like pte time with myself.. Eg:  I can reply emails in peace , go to the gym , eat whatever nonsense for lunch. When BH’s home, he will be like ‘eh.. what u doing?? why u smiling at the computer?’ & he will wanna eat proper lunch! sickeningly irritating!

okok.. all these things aside… today, I just felt like being nice and dedicating a post to BH.. awww.. so sweet… right?? heheh

I haven’t really blog on nice things abt BH for the longest time ..  coz i always feel tt since he’s my hubby, he’s obliged to do all these things ! oh well, so today’s post will b on the things he’s nt obliged to do but he did – tt’s what mks it ‘little’ and ‘sweet’? heh..

well,  BH is usually nice.. just tt sometimes, I don’t like to praise him.. Praising will mk him complacent… so when he does something nice and good… I’ll think of something else and urge him to go an extra mile for me.. mean? but I think it works for my ‘Jacob wannabe’  ;p

1) during the long weekend, there was this Lancome promo.. Genifique & Genifque Eye for like US$100. I don’t know how much it’s retailing at SG but imo this is super cheap > 2 items wld have been US$137!!! Of course, I wanted it – tried the sample previously and loved it.. makes the skin smooth… I was expecting BH to say tt it’s too ex… ask me to look for alternatives.. BUT he didn’t .. so he log on to the site and bought it for me ( while i was still hesitating..) !!! yay!! Happy!!

2) I was also lusting for Chanel Classic Flap bag.. man… too much of silly entertainment news / mags makes me want this bag so badly.. so BH made the effort to find out more abt the bag :O It was so random – instead of playing with his games, he was searching for this bag on ebay!! heh… not expecting him to buy for me.. it’s seriously toooooooo ex..even the 2nd hand one is ex ! but the effort and thought of getting it for me.. makes me happy! maybe a few years later? 🙂

3) he takes nice pics of me when I thought look awful.. awww.. at least I thought this pic of me looks nice 🙂

4) He spreads jam & butter on my bread for me every morning coz I told him my parents does tt for me last time… geez.. I’m such a baby…

5) He diligently wash the dishes, clean the sink and stove every night – even when he’s “sick”! wahahaha…

6) He washes my water bottle and fill up  the flask every night so that I’ll have lotsa water to drink in the day

maybe some times.. it’s the littlest things tt counts! 🙂

Just for record, *ahem* he has like 6 brownie points ONLY.. haha

Happy New Year 2010 (Binghuan’s version)

Another new year another new place, not sure if I should consider it a blessing? Having to move so much furniture with the help of another guy is just torture, but somehow I feel happy that I did it. I think that almost sums up 2009 for me? It is just more and more new experience of stuff I would never go through if I didn’t jump up such a wonderful chance.

New experiences of staying independent without anyone’s help, just me and my wife? Having to go to market every week or two. Having to clean up dishes every night. Having to make the bed every morning, having to clean my own clothes, having to do all the things which one may have taken for granted last time as we are all so well-taken care of by our parents last time. Is this considered to be growing up? Well I think I took a bit longer than others to be going through all these. I cannot imagine myself turning the big 3 but here I am staring at it as it comes heading to my direction like a bullet train. *sigh*

No time to waste thinking about what if, what could, maybe? That’s why I am a die hard Nike fan now. Just Do It. Damnit just do it!
Why bother thinking about money… time is actually more expensive as you can’t really save it… If you want it, get it. (Of course only get it if you can afford it.)

So here I am, at my brand new place (which I hope would be more permanent is moving is just too tiring :p) Staring outside, waiting for the new year firework. Thinking about the many other places I want to go and see. I picked up a new form of hobby in photography in 2009. Something I am quite proud of actually! 🙂 I always loved doing design but time was never there for me to do all the design on the website that I dreamt of last time… Was just telling Amanda “Hey you know this site was something similar to what I wanted to do last time, but I had no time…” So I am very happy I got a dslr, although it cost a few hundred, at least it was instant gratification. I can see my work of art immediately! Plus it helps when I travel and take photos of the places…

Sorry for the randomness of this entry, jumping here and there. Think I haven’t blogged for too long and am too rusty. Back to 2009…

2009, visited some places like Whistler where the 2010 Winter Olympics is going to be held! Visited some of the more famous city in USA, like Las Vegas and the more boring one like San Antonio. Went to my very first tulips farm? Should really have gone out more… but we were on a mission in saving. And did we saved. We saved almost twice of what we did last time when both of us were working in Singapore. This year is no different. We will still be on a saving mission. You can imagine Amanda asking why I leave the TV on with no one watching… heh

And the thing about 2010 which we are not really looking forward to is we have to go back to settle our VISA and home… not that we don’t want to go back and see our families, its just that going back is going to hurt our saving mission… We will probably be back around Aug, Sept period… and stop over at Seoul for a short visit. We cannot even leave USA as our VISA won’t allow us to re enter USA… So 2010 only overseas trip will be Singapore.

What else to look forward for 2010? Hmmm, windows mobile 7 😀
Yea hopefully it can be strong enough to fight with iphone (kinda of hard)

Resolutions…
– I think I have been really bad to my body, so my resolution is to at least exercise once a week with the help of my personal trainer Amanda Goh.

I can’t really think of anything else actually. I love my wife like forever already. (Lub her deep deep is what we usually say in Singlish)
Hope the firework later is worth it, will post pics if I have good shots. 🙂

Christmas 2009

Seriously do not know if this will be my last Christmas in Seattle with BH 🙁 I feel that i’m leading a wasted life here.. but going back to work means it’s lifeless once again.. i really don’t know

Anyhow, BH and I had a “Messy Christmas” instead of a “Merry Christmas” We needed to move out of our old apartment by 30 Dec – so we did the moving and things were like lying ard in every inch of the new place. We also didn’t deco our new place or have any X’mas tree , unlike last yr 🙁  The first is always the best ( erm… just like 1st love? heh)

The day before Christmas Eve & Christmas Eve were spent baking

 
1) Cookies – cheated and used a ready made bake. heh.. turns out nice! okok.. i seriously wanted to mk my own cookies BUT all the rolling pins were OOS!! can u believe it??? man… muz stock baking supplies early here

It didn’t snow in Seattle this yr… so BH gave me a snowflake 🙂 It was sweet BUT can someone pls teach BH how to be romantic? heh.. he figured out tt i was happy with the little blue box last time and decided tt the blue box will mk me happy again… geez… it did but something fresh will be niceR!

BH also made us this!! A calendar! manz… I thought this was the sweetest thing he did after soooooooooo long!!

How we moved?

Moving is such a horrible experience… BH and I are so over it ( maybe not.. we still have some stuff in the OLD apartment!!!)

The truth is.. BH and I are super fortunate.. we have moved house in SG but we were so young tt we can’t recall how it was done… 🙁 so we naively thought that moving was like put stuff in the truck and move off… man… we were sooooooooooo wrong..

I felt bad about getting Abel ( our guest!) to help us out.. heh… but he kinda came at the ‘wrong’ time… ya see.. Abel came down from Victoria, BC.. needed a place to stay at Seattle before flying to Taiwan..so he was obliged to helped us… Seriously, thank God for sending him to help us… he was such a wonderful mover ( he moved hse for his relatives b4) – so he helped us alot with the arranging/packing of things in the truck, so it won’t be damaged in transit…

Without Abel, probably won’t be able to start the truck as well… ya know… It was BH’s st time driving the truck.. geez.. we don’t even know where’s the gears or brake (diff from normal car!)!! So Abel, who drove a lorry before, helped us out! 🙂

Without Abel, we probably will be living in darkness ( in our bedroom) as well – he helped us to install the ceiling light!
