IMAX: Avatar

I hope we are not one of last few to watch this movie? haha..By the way, this movie just won the Golden Globes for Best Film – I mean..”DUH!!” I’m not a psychic but looking at how almost everyone rushed to the threatres for this movie and the superb reviews – I’m sure it’s the BEST of the BEST!

BH and I actually bought our IMAX tix 1 week in advanced in order to get good timings – as the IMAX is free sitting here, we Q for slightly more than 1hr so that we can get better seats !

you know what? I usually get very bad headache the next day after watching 3D IMAX shows – but not this one! so, it’s 2 thumbs up for me! 🙂

The movie started at 10.45pm and ended at 1.45pm – I was enjoying the movie so much that  the 3hrs seem so short!! Not enuff can! I wonder if there’s a part 2?

Let’s talk about the movie, I like movies with strong themes, Avatar is one of them –

Firstly, Connectedness with nature. I kinda like how the ‘Blue natives’ are so connected with nature. When I say CONNECTED, it’s literal! How the nerves-like thingy joins them together with the birds and plants! So cool right? Imagine me greeting you using my hair in future? awww… “I see you..”

I also like how Good triumps over Evil – the last part of the movie kinda reminds me of Lord of the Rings – Return of the King. The part whereby all the different clans in Pandora join hands to defeat the humans vs the part where all the different kingdoms send their troops to help Frodo, Simialr isn’t ? I always like such scenes, like how self scarifical everyone is to help each other though it might seem bleak and tt they are fighting a losing battle.

Next, Appearance Vs Reality. This theme is present is almost all the books and movies I watched!! geez… Rem Jake? In reality, he’s on wheelchair, he’s a handicap – when he’s in his Avatar, he is a strong warrior! wow! I would love to have an avatar too!! Then I’ll be stronger and more powerful! wahaha.. anyway, it’s interesting how Neytiri, the lead female character falls for Jake ( when he’s blue), do you think Neytiri will fall for Jake if she sees him in wheelchair in the 1st place?

BH and I were also discussing abt the significance of Jake in wheelchair. Why does the director portray Jake as a handicap and not a normal person? What difference does it make to the movie? Well, in my opinion, I feel that it’s a good idea that Jake is handicap, this shows that even someone who can’t walk will be able to do GREAT things! Being handicap isn’t the end. However, it’s quite contradictory, if being a handicap still allows you to do great things when you r in an Avatar, why does he wanna become part of the ‘blue people’ ? Is it for love or for himself?

So the show left both of us wondering: Did Jake become part of the ‘Blue pple’ coz he loved Neytiri? or is it a self-centred thing? ie: for fame & glory in Pandora and his legs.

Above all, it’s an exciting show which I don’t mind watching again!! hehe

Just a quote I like from the movie, Jake said this “Everything is backwards now, like out there is the true world and in here is the dream” I feel like that, ‘out there’ = SG, ‘in here’ = US

nah.. i’m not depressed!!
