If you have been reading my blog, you’ll know that I’ve been couponing alot 🙂 I take time to do research to make sure I get the best deals – saving money on groceries is my top most priorty… so… It was a random day that I visited my fave coupon website

happiness overflowed

our good mood continued into saturday.. heh…

did our usual marketing and…BH cooked dinner for us –

Baked Sea bass and fries ( Fish & Chips.. haha)

I don’t like Sea bass – I find it very fatty.. I would prefer Halibut/cod anytime! You see… compliments goes a long way!! yay! As long as I don’t need to cook…. the food is super DELICIOUS!!! Thank you BH!!

To top up the delicious dinner… BH brought me to watch THE KILLERS with our BOGO tix !!! ( I choose Ashton over SATC2!! Can you believe it??!!)

Just when I thought the weekend can’t get any better….. we also bought IMAX tix for ESCLIPSE on July 2!!!! I can’t wait!!! 😀

Friday~~

Last Friday was probably our most exciting friday! haha…

Initially, BH told me that he’s not coming home for dinner .. I was kinda disapted that he had more life than me… so I planned to spend the night watching My Sister’s Keeper on cable and spend time with Edward by reading Esclipse. I happily went for gym… came home.. just when I was abt to cook dinner, BH called ” eh… get ready, you are going! We’ll pick you up at 7pm! ” hahaha.. i knew it.. he needed an arm candy! hehe

*sweat* anyhow, this is soooo last minute and I stink … so what am I gonna wear? Took a shower and ….

Here’s how I looked!

used Goody Spin Pins and formed my bun…. Carried my Kate Spade Bow Group Mirra Clutch and wore my $13.50 dress from Forever21! erm… I wore my leggings and brown booties from Gmarket ( decided not to wear sandals) 😀

I was glad that BH commented that i look hot in the car and his collegue told me I smelt good! wahaha… anyhow, BH’s collegue is Polish .. and he’s quite good looking! okok… he has dark hair and sharp features! cute lor…. so he bought us to a Polish Association in Capitol Hill for dinner!!! It was a great experience as –

1) I had NEVER eaten Polish food

2) I met BH’s collegues!

OKOK… here’s the part… just when I thought that Polish guys are cute…. BH had a Turkish collegue. wah!!!! Think Turkish ice-cream  man in SG? Some are quite good looking right? BH Turkish collegue is SUPER good looking with dimples!!!! oh man… sharp features… dark hair…. Here’s the part… HE IS ATTACHED!!! sorry girls! 🙁

Because it’s like a Polish Association, we needed to pay for admission, $1/head. The dinning place takes place in the hall of the Association. I believe that they do not serve food all year round and it’s only on some days that they have dinner. More information here

Let’s talk Polish food – I was quite shocked that Polish food is kinda like Chinese food? haha.. they had little dumplings with meat in their soup or fried! Oh… We also had Pork chops , which taste kinda like the Taiwanese ones.. besides these, we also had the Polish Saugage.

sooooo… BH and I drank Polish beer and Vodka.. haha… 1/2 way into dinner BH was telling me that he’s spinning.. i’m like ” Is it like how you felt on the wedding night?” hehehe…

Thankfully, BH’s collegue’s fiancee, Amanda ( yes, we have the same name) sent us home 🙂 Thank you so much!

Overall, it was a lovely night out for us.. laughed alot… drink alot.. and we had wonderful company! Happy !

Cooking lessons

In the mist of crazy couponing, we also GROUPON 

BH and I just bought GROUPONS to attend cooking lesson at Cook’s World together!! yay!!

haha.. it will be so fun and exciting because it’s the first time ever we are attending a cooking class 🙂

Hopefully there’s slots for Summer PIE & TART Workshop

Looking forward to the lesson! We like baking together.. so attending this class will be soooooo fun!! hehe.. I can imagine that my trash bin will be soooooo undernourished after we attend the lesson! wahaha..

If the lessons are sooo good, I am so going to attend their Baking 101 – Hopefully with professional help, i’ll know what’s wrong with my chiffon cake or cheesecake !! 😀

Chef Chio

BH cooked dinner for us – WOW!!! It’s edible and very nice 🙂

After the horrific experience with the fish, I had decided that I am not gonna cook fish for the time being. We went to the supermarket, saw the fresh Halibut Steak and BH’s cooking instinct came to him!! heh.. when we got home, he was looking for recipes excitedly and noting down the ingredients he need ( even if it’s just 2 items) .. haha… it was really nice to see him being so enthu about whipping up a meal

Great… wonderful dinner with little comments from me. Well, I believe tt if he experienced it for himself, he would know how to do it better the next time round. So I zip up and kept my hands to myself ( even if I don’t like what he’s doing)

I kept complimenting his fish… from the beginning till the end. hee… love the lemony flavour of the fish .. i don’t mind eating the same dish every sunday!!! seriously hope he will cook every weekend man…

P/S: and he went researching for the next recipe.. yay!

Auburn Petpalozza

The day started nicely with good hair day with GOODY spin spins! 🙂 Here’s how I look

Breakfast was at IHOP – My fave breakfast place

So during breakfast, BH brought up the topic of retaking our pre-wedding photos.. well, i seriously HATE my pre-wedding photos. The photos we took are not good in my opinion.. This is something which bothered me alot and I regretted 🙁 I was sooooo glad that out of the blue, BH brought up this topic .. i mean he was suggesting retaking it with EXPRESSIVELYJOHO in Shanghai! wah.. overseas wedding shot with a superb photographer .. Then I was like “but we are saving money” .. he was like ” money is not an issue.. give me 2 mths and i can earn it back!take it as it’s a 2nd yr anniversary present? It will fill up the emptiness in your heart ” I was soooooo happy.. even if it’s “talk only, no action” I still feel happy.. It made my day really 🙂

After which we went to Auburn Petpalozza, which is like a pet carnival. People brought their dogs and all. hehe.. there were all booth set up my dog recue groups so we just went to take a look… it was kinda like a long drive BUT worth it! 🙂

Comfort food

I suddenly crave those moments in SG when you can smell Ya Kun from afar. Kaya toast is so readily available! I mean.. who would wanna go through all the trouble to make your own kaya ( haha..okok.. except  my mum – who would mk her own kaya anyway) I also rem the pandan aroma from the kitchen when my mum mks kaya and how she would spent a whole lot of time ‘watching’ fire and ‘stiring’ the mixture.. heh.. when the process is done.. I would rush to the kitchen, grab bread and start to eat… yummy! Love the hot Kaya on the bread… tastes sooooo good!

During the weekend, we finally managed to buy Pandan leaves. Yesterday, I attempted to make Kaya myself. (Note: We can buy Glory brand Kaya here, but it’s not as nice as the other brands in SG) I modified the recipe I found online with what my mum would have done and I’m v pleased with the outcome 🙂 As I was cooking, I was secretly licking my fingers – Kaya!! Yums!!  

This morning, we had this for breakfast.

(Coffee, Toasted bread with homemade kaya and margarine, Half boiled eggs)

Both of us were like ‘shioks!!!!’ haha.. my own version of Ya Kun!

I can forsee myself mking more Kaya in future 😀

the sun’s back!

On Saturday, I decided that I needed to borrow the pretty longchamp scarf from Sabrina ( my bag!) haha.. so I wore it on my head as a hairband. hehe.. nice ?? 😀

The weather was really sunny .. so I could finally wear ‘summer’ clothes. haha.. wore my A&F one shoulder top together with my pretty Kate Spade earrings.

We went for brunch at Mayuri Indian Cuisine. It was buffet brunch.. haha..but buffet is very ‘bo hua’ for me.. i don’t eat much. BUT the food was superb! I mean.. i love Indian food! the spices .. the aroma.. mks my mouth waters! I had yummy chickpeas salad + Tandoori chicken + butter chicken + mutton curry + naan+ yellow spinach rice! oh well, the deco of the place was so  ‘indian’ too! The food is sooo authentic! What more can you ask for!

heh.. think we were the only chinese there… It’s great that SG is a multi racial society.. we get to enjoy and appreciate food from many different cultures 🙂

worst dinner ever!

last night marks the worst dinner I had cooked… EVER

Seriously, i wasn’t even cooking something new .. I did everything the same tried and tested way… BUT…….. it failed me 🙁

ok.. so i steamed fish… wash the fish.. did all the seasoning and all… put it in the pot to steam at HIGH heat for abt 10 mins.. took the fish out and it ought to be ready to eat to only realised that some parts are still uncooked… *sianz 1/2* need to steam somemore

BH was saying tt he’s hungry.. and i really wanted the fish to cook FAST.. so I took the plate and wanted to placed the fish back to steam… guess what happened???

There goes dinner.. no mood to eat liaoz…

1) need to clean the place

2) waste money – how to eat the fish .. what if there’s small glass fragments??

It was pure hell and I was so upset! FIRST time this happened after I have been cooking for nearly everyday!!!

and BH had to rub it in saying that i’m impatient, always wanna do things in a hurry… geez… it’s just the lousy plate’s fault

The consolation of the bad dinner

1) I was glad that the plate did not break on the floor!! It broke when it’s on the dinning table! *Heng! I guess it must be the hot plate meets the cold air – can’t take the fast temperature change so it broke? mk sense?*

2) Luckily, I cooked extra food for BH to bring for lunch so he ate  part of his lunch for dinner last night while i just ate the vege…

a bad dinner .. hope this won’t happen ever again!

Review: Wild Ginger

It’s the last sunday of Seattle Resturant week. BH and I made reservations to Wild Ginger to enjoy the lunch promo of 3 for $15. We had our lesson learnt at Palisades so this time I called to confirm if the special menu is on before mking a trip down. I called and confirmed 2X with the lady at the front desk …. [Story? Read on!]

Bright and sunny, we made it to Wild Ginger at The Bravern

It’s our first time there since it opened last yr? wah.. lots of high end boutiques like LV, Balenciaga , Marc Jacobs and of course CHANEL! I felt so small there as I was only carrying a low end Coach clutch – that’s y i need Sabrina 🙁 no… i’m not materialistic.. it’s just how pple look at you.. esp the asians there.. SERIOUS! In Bellevue, you need to dress up! The asians look at asians from head to toe ( and i always feel self-concious and I got to ask BH – do i look weird??) so.. these asians carry all the branded bags, wear branded clothes… i feel so ‘low class’ haha..

Simple us on a causal sunday

we were very tired… BH worked late and I worked for the past few nights. He did his work, I did mine.. if u think i look energetic/good? it’s because of Lancome Genefique, it works!! haha.. if not.. then it’s not working.. heh

[STORY]

At Wild Ginger, (maybe you would have expected that … )the special 3 for $15 menu is unavailable for sunday lunch. I was so disapted and upset. So, BH ( 1st time.. so ‘man’) told the server ” We want to leave, we will come back again” The server panicked and talk to manager. Manager, Tom came and I explained to him that I am very upset as I called and confirmed at least 2X that the menu is in place. In the end, manager told us that he will get the kitchen to do the menu for us… well.. I felt like a valued guest, no..I just want my rights as a customer..

Our food

I ordered – starter: fried seasoned shitake, entree: otak with beans and brow rice, desserts: truffles

BH ordered – starter: Spring roll, entree, beef rendng with beans and white rice, desserts: truffles ( same as me)

To me food taste ok? Otak is not those we eat in SG (it was just salmon wrapped with banana leaves – quite fragant!) BH thought his food was superb. The service at the resturant was very good despite what happened. Tom, the manager was very professional and came over to apologise to us for the miscommunication and made sure everything was to ou satisfaction at least 2X. I felt uncomfy ( or rather paiseh) and can’t wait to finish up and go.

Bill came – gave them a bigger tip for the arrangements they made.

It was a good lunch at a high class place for an affordable price 🙂
