Got the keys for our new home this morning… doesn’t feel as exciting as the 1st time… wonder y..
Thank you Nicole for the wonderful Chwee Kueh recipe!
The Chwee Kueh is super ez to mk and it taste great! ( Followed the above recipe 2x already!)
I was quite lucky to buy those metal cups ( looks like the shape of Chwee Kueh) from ROSS, they call it ‘Condiments cup’ . Without those metal cups, this would not have been possible
Some modifications I made:
– I used Flying Horse Rice Flour
– Corn flour = Corn starch
– My chai poh was brought over by my mum, not very salty, smells good.. so I only stir fry them with oil … and it taste like the real thing! 🙂
Who needs Tiong Bahru Chwee Kueh anymore! wahaha
*needed to get out to run some errands but.. it started drizzling the moment I wanna put on my boots.. so.. might as well blog 1st.. “rain rain go away!” *
heh.. I seriously need to blog about this else I think i’ll forget about our first date 🙂 aww..
12/12/2009 marks the 1st time I met Samantha in person!! haha.. i was feeling quite excited thru’out the day! anyhow, we reach the place quite early > Facing East and there’s already a line! I seriously think they need to expand the place soon – it’s juz too small and it’s crowded!
So i’m not gonna talk about the food or review about the resturant although BITTERGOURD WITH SALTED EGG is delicious!! BUT the pt is…. I met another me – haha… someone’s whose occupation is DOING NOTHING ( aka ‘Shopping’ ?) it’s so cool to meet another young couple who’s just like us! 🙂
heh… we had a fantastic dinner, after which we headed to Oasis for some card games, Jenga and pool! (BH and I sucked badly at pool.. haha.. think Sam & Denny is too good.. heh..REMATCH pls???!!!!) we enjoyed ourselves tremendously as it had been sometime since we had great company ( haha.. sorry Julius!)
manz… no photos can… *ahem* Samantha – pics!!!! ;p
Would definitely hang out again – great night!
It was one of those lazy saturday – BH & I woke up late due to late night shopping on Black Friday.. so BH kindly suggested that we cld go eat brunch at Lola He had been telling me this place after he went for lunch with his collegues! heh.. great tt he ‘honoured’ his promise
Lola is one of the Tom Douglas resturant at downtown seattle… The 1st time I dined in one of his resturants ( Dahlia’s Lounge) was when Caryn was here 🙂 heh.. I seriously thought tt it would be the last time I’m dining at such a place coz of the HIGH price… BUT my opinions changed at Lola
BH and I made our reservations via Open Table (Thanks to Caryn for setting this a/c for me.. very useful!) that very morning and we didn’t drive, took a bus to downtown.. arrived just in time and was shown to our table.. nice ambience!
So below shows the food we ordered:
– Pancakes
– Lamb kebabs
– Desert ( some honey walnuts thingy)

The food generally taste great.. maybe coz i was too hungry 🙁 The pancake comes with this special paste like jam – which tasted ginger-sweet.. The kebabs were ok, but the serving is too small for a hungry boy! I love the dessert.. although I feel that the ‘goreng pisang’ like thing was easy to cook IF i have a deep fryer.. haha
anyhow, BH had a company card and the promo was 1 for 1 entree! wah!! We had a relaxing time eating, talking over coffee ( drank like 2 jugs!) Nice.. enjoy such a causal weekend.. something which was lacking in my fast paced life in SG…
Total damage ( with tips) : US$35
We will go back for brunch again.. heh.. and probably try Serious Pie ( another Tom Douglas resturant)

The past week flew by real fast! Bh had a whole week off .. so we were like packing and dismantling our furnitures to prepare us for the big move… well, all’s good.. just that we might need help to move… 2 of us are not gonna make it? 🙁 sobz… was so worried that I ‘complained’ to my family and my dad spoke to Bh last night abt getting help & movers… heng ah… else I think I will just die from fatigue before I enjoy the beautiful views.. heh..
anyhow, it was also my 1st black friday in seattle.. i guess i was kinda expecting alot… like how the prices will suddenly be super duper low? haha… but of corrs not la! I didn’t buy anything much – helping pple to buy things instead..
nah.. they were definitely some good deals ( eg: $3 slow cooker and blender)BUT we just don’t wanna spend $ on things we don’t really need… so… our black friday shopping was kinda boring?
[story time!!!]
so we were at the outlet.. after going to Kate Spade, I decided that maybe i shld drop by Coach – I’m not exactly a Coach fan , although I love my Coach Sabrina Tan .. hehe.. the Coach outlet store Q was super long… and the weather was awfully cold 🙁 so while BH went to the car to put the stuff we bought, i was waiting in the Q … BH took a very long time to come back to me.. i was thinking in my heart ” when he comes back later, i am gonna scold him jialat jialat!”
Guess what??? BH came back abt 15mins later with Mac burgers and hot coffee for us!!! wah… the hot coffee bought so much warmth in the cold weather – you shld have seen the faces of the taiwanese girl in front of me and the korean girl behind me… wahahaha… for once ( maybe twice), i was like so proud of BH! his actions was like those of the male lead in Korean/taiwanese drama shows can!!! hahaha… so…even the bitter coffee taste sooooooo sweet!! 🙂 Good job! and I was happy… haha… anyway, the Q wasn’t moving, we left the place shortly after
that night also marks the 1st time I had supper ( at 1am) after 3 yrs? 🙁 imagine the calories
It was a nice trip nevertheless.. imagine if i didn’t brave the cold for 15mins.. haha.. i didn’t know that BH is capable of such a romantic act!
PS: Found out tt BH bought Mac as he was hungry… oh well.. ignorance is bliss! at least he made the effort to walk to Mac and bought something for me too!!
I made Ondeh ondeh for the first time today 🙂 It’s easy to make! ya.. mine is not GREEN coz i didn’t have the colouring/pandan extract …
I need to change the brand of Glutinous Rice Flour used, this particular vietnam brand have a weird smell.. and I didn’t use Gula Melaka (used brown sugar instead) as I can’t find it!! I was talking to my mum just now and she told me tt the Gula Melaka is in my fridge( indeed it is) !! heh… I’ll try this again!
Our lease for the current apartment will be up really soon.. well, we are super reluctant to move BUT our current aptment is really getting too expensive.. geez… it’s only 2 of us and our utilities bills are like very very high!!! 🙁 we wanna move upwards initially (within the apt) BUT thought that with the price we cld move somewhere better…
For the past months, we looked at abt 20 different properties??? all not suitable for us as we have many conditions in mind
1) walkable to post office
2) good view
3) within budget
4) prefably BRAND NEW
5) near BH’s workplace
6) safe area
7) gym – must have TV on every machine
and hey!!! today, we finally found the place!! we are very thrilled and happy!! think we made a good deal! no walk-in closet, place is smaller… BUT we have a storage space thrown into our package and it’s within budget!!! WOW
Here’s a sneak peak!!

looking forward to stay in the aptment BUT not the moving part… 🙁
On a good note.. new home = new deco!!
Things to buy:
1) shower curtains
2) new matching matching towels
3) fake island
4) tv console
just hope everything goes on well! 🙂
Nov 12 was kinda like a super duper cold day… we woke up and realised tt there’s no electricity!! manz… so cold can!! I was wearing my windbreaker in my own home!!! anyhow, we were so unprepared.. we don’t even have hot water for breakfast! The electricty only came back at like 10.40am.. and I thought we will be safe…
BUT
electricity went off again at abt 2pm!!! and last till abt 7.40pm! man… i totally had NOTHING to do, can’t even go online ( no modem/router) and can’t cook – we have a gas stove BUT it can’t work without the gun thingy… to mk it worst, the sun sets at 4.45pm and it became pitch dark (and cold) in the apartment.. As I mentioned, we were soooooooo ill-prepared, we don’t even have a torch!!! so I was like surviving with a puny Ikea scented candle.. pathetic!
BH bought sucky dinner home tt night… booo…
was so glad tt the electricity came back! phew.. the 1st thing i did was to take a shower.. so afraid tt the electicty will go out again!! now i realised the importance of electricity!!!
Moral of the story: BE prepared!!!
(btw, we bought torch and biscuits to prepare us for the future sudden electric shortage..)
